Description
I painted the layer with the eyes and left out a lot of detail knowing that by the time I compressed them into the image they wouldn't need a lot of fine details, but by the time I got the layer to where I wanted, it looked like a photograph. ah, well.
The inspiration with the eyes was imagining Ground Control having a read-out of the pilots eyes. It's kind of odd that they measure vitals like blood pressure and heart beat but don't bother to read a pilots eyes, as the eyes can tell you a lot about a person. What objects or items the pilot is observing, or even emotions like stress and anxiety. If ground control needs the pilots attention on a given object, they don't need to wait for vocal commands to understand that the pilot is at attention, they can see the pilot's eyes.
I wanted the piece to portray a psychedelic vision in digital format. Like the thought process of people who are capable of thinking of more than one thing at a time. The visual is offering readouts of ancient temples, the planets current surface, as well as other data such as thermal readings so the pilot's equipment is offering an assault of data to ground control in a visually feasible format.
A derelict and ancient planet, feeding back current state of the dead planet in addition to it's industrialized ancient life in one timeline, it's ancient architecture in another time-line, as well as current thermal readings of the planets surface in conjunction with data pertaining to the space craft's current state of operation and pilots health and condition.
As we now have tools like Google-Maps, it seems like a futurist's vision of Earth circa 50 years from now, we might also have models of our cityscapes 100 or 10,000 years ago readily available at a moments whim, or maybe even constantly inundating us with that data readily available at all times. Imagine Google Glass communicating to you the Earth 1000 years ago, superimposed over what you currently view in real time with your own eyes. That was the vision for this piece.
