| Taken at a you-pick wild flower garden. bees and flowers where abundant. |
by *JasonEngle| I am an artist of many mediums. The one that I work with most is photography, it just feels like a practical medium to me. I am inspired by dark moody images, but unfortunatly you can only photograph what you have access to. While I enjoy the darker side of the mind I often end up catching a whimsical feel in much of my photography, this is symptomatic of Oregon's landscape carved and shapped by heavy anual rainfall. Moss grows in abundace and creates a feel that I try to magnify and perpetuate through my work. Photograhy is a passion of mine. A day in the field is a day well spent in my eyes. I also do most of my work alone, as it is hard for other people to understand what it is to spend prolonged periods of time with a subject. Walking down a path becomes a whole different task entirely when you walk by thinking, feeling and looking through an artists eye. A walk down a path is no longer a nature walk, but an exploration. A photographer can spend an hour looking at a single leaf. To me, this is a relaxing change from the daily rigors of life, where we have difficulties paying attention to anything, and our jobs are difficult, only because we don't want to be there. Photographing nature is a different concept. It doesn't matter where you are, you will find a way to like it. It doesn't matter what you're looking at, you will find a way to make it beautiful. It doesn't matter what you're doing, You will find a way to enjoy it. Being in nature with my camera, teaches me to appreciate the little things. To stop and differentiate the forest from the trees. When you stop and spend time with a subject, such as a flower, it puts things into perspective and lets you look at the world in a different way, even if only for a little while, even if I do still have to go to work the next day. Maybe one day, when I'm sailing the monotonous waves of life where there are no writers, there are no painters, there are no photographers I can use these principals and apply them to daily life. Maybe it doesn't matter where I am, maybe it doesn't matter that everything is unattractive or less than ideal, maybe it doesn't matter what I'm doing. Maybe I can find a way to enjoy, no matter what I'm doing. Until then, I'm going to keep taking pictures, because for me, this is my moment of zen. |
